Residential Alcohol TreatmentIf you are suffering from alcoholism, recognizing your problem and taking the initiative to get help is the first, most important step in your recovery. It is difficult for any individual to get sober without seeking professional treatment. At a residential alcohol rehab, patients live at the facility while they undergo treatment. Residential facilities are equipped to treat a wide range of addictions and patient personalities. Residential rehab facilities offer some of the most thorough and comprehensive forms of addiction therapy a patient can receive.

Alcohol Abuse Treatment Programs

When you enter into a residential rehab facility, you will first meet with an intake counselor who will develop a customized treatment plan based on your particular addiction and your individual needs. Most patients who enter a residential facility will first undergo detox to treat their physical dependency. Following detox is the counseling portion of treatment. In a residential setting, patients will receive 24-hour medical supervision and support from counselors.  Individual and group therapy are incorporated into the program so patients can learn more about themselves and their addiction while forming a strong basis of support with their peers. Some facilities even include family therapy so patients have that same level of support and understanding developed for when they return home. Programs can last anywhere from a few weeks to more than a year, though the average is one to two months.

After a residential rehab program is complete, patients may enter into an outpatient program, a sober living facility or a community-based treatment program. These options vary from person to person and are usually discussed with your counselors. The purpose of all of these options is to help patients transition back into their regular lives while providing them with continued structure and support.

What to Consider When Selecting a Residential Alcohol Treatment Center
